Dear Friends,
Last week’s news can be construed as good or bad depending on your level of optimism.
The GDP numbers and employment numbers continue to show the weakness in the US economy but the numbers reported are below forecasted. Freight flows are edging up and sliding with the seasons so it will be interesting to see what happens this fall.
The trucking industry is showing signs of life as the June tonnage increased 5.4% and the financial results of carriers were mixed. Even those carriers with lower financial results are reporting that business is improving.
At Wagner, our transportation business is doing well as companies seek less expensive solutions. Using our broad base of carriers we can usually find a competitive solution that meets our customer’s service requirements.
Because of the rail connections at our facilities throughout our network, we are also being asked about boxcar services. Wagner’s facilities are connected by rail in addition to our proximity to the nation’s interstate highway system.
We also have distribution center capacity in our network so don’t hesitate to call is we may assist you with any projects.
Have a great week!
John Wagner Jr.
